New Water Garden Plants 2015
Florida Aquatic Nurseries has many new and exciting water garden plants to add for the 2015 season.

We have added some great new plants to our water garden line. We are offering two new hardy waterlilies: Nymphaea 'Lily Pons' and Nymphaea 'Purple Fantasy'.  Two new tropical waterlilies: Nymphaea 'Plum Crazy' and Nymphaea 'Avalanche'. Three marginal plants: Mexican Butterfly weed, Peach Delight Canna and Variegated snowflake.  And lastly, one surface plant: Variegated Water Lettuce.

Nymphaea 'Purple Fantasy'

The dream has been realized, the award winning N. 'Purple Fantasy' is a reality! The first ever dark purple waterlily was hybridized by FAN and will be released to the market next year, 2015 (Patent pending). N. 'Purple Fantasy' won best in its class and 2nd best overall in the 2013 IWGS Best new Waterlily Competition held in Denver last year. N. 'Purple Fantasy' is a real performer with numerous blooms on any given day. The deep purple flowers on the deep green pads makes for a real eye catcher and will be the talking point of any pond. In the past only Tropical lilies exhibited this purple color and tropical lilies must be replanted ever year. Not so with Purple Fantasy! Having over wintered at Denver Botanic Gardens, Purple Fantasy will liven up your pond from year to year.

Nymphaea 'Lily Pons'

Hybridized by Perry D. Slocum in 1992, Lily Pons was a totally new look in water lilies at the time. What sets it apart is the fact that it has one of the most spectacular blossoms of any hardy waterlily. Exhibiting up to 100 petals on each flower, a full look was created that had never been seen before! This plant is not the most prolific bloomer but the flowers more than make up for any wait.

Nymphaea 'Plum Crazy' - Plum Crazy Tropical Waterlily

Nymphaea 'Plum Crazy'

For the sixth straight year Florida Aquatic Nurseries has been awarded the honor of Best New Tropical Waterlily at the International Waterlily and Water Gardening Society's annual New Waterlily Contest.  Not only was Nymphaea 'Plum Crazy' awarded the Best New Tropical Waterlily of 2013, it was given the highest honors of Best New Waterlily of 2013 beating the other competitors from all over the globe and in all four different waterlily categories. What makes this tropical waterlily so special is the exceptionally flower full of petals and the purple color is quite eye catching.  Not many waterlilies on the market have such a full flower.  With over 100 petals you can see that this waterlily will stand out from quite a distance in any water garden.   Nymphaea 'Plum Crazy' does not burn or wilt in the hot summer sun, has longer and thinner petals, and produces larger flowers.  Most days Nymphaea 'Plum Crazy' has at least two flowers open and often will have three flowers open. Not only is the flower spectacular, but the foliage is quite stunning also. Green lily pads striped with maroon make for an attractive appearance in the event that there aren't any flowers open. Nymphaea 'Plum Crazy' has a nice compact rosette of leaves and won't spread over your entire water garden.  It is a medium sized tropical waterlily with an overall spread of four to six feet.

Nymphaea 'Avalanche'

Nymphaea 'Avalanche' won the best new lily in 2006! There was good reason for this success, N. ‘Avalanche is a spectacular plant. It is a prolific bloomer exhibiting large light blue flowers with many petals. The pads are heavily mottled giving the large light blue flower a nice backdrop which creates a lovely total package. This is a large plant with a spread of up to 11 feet when mature.

Mexican Butterfly Weed (Ascepias curassavica)

Mexican Butterfly Weed is, as its name implies, a butterfly magnet! It’s most famous visitor is the Monarch Butterfly; however, many other species of butterflies visit its beautiful flowers.  Plants grow up to 3 feet in height and the bright orange group of flowers contains 10 to 20 flowers each. This easy to grow plant will enhance any water garden.

Canna 'Peach Delight'

Canna 'Peach Delight' is an exclusive new addition to our great lineup of cannas. Developed right here at FAN, this canna, which is similar to a Longwood canna, fills a color void in the Longwood canna varieties. Longwood varieties already come in red, yellow, pink and now we can offer peach in a similar plant. As you know, Longwood cannas are by far the best water cannas in the trade. Canna ‘Peach Delight’ should be equally as good with it is dark green leaves and it’s free flowering peach flowers.

Variegated water lettuce (Pistia Statiodes)

Variegated water lettuce is a brand new find in water gardening! This is the latest in a series of variegated plant to appear for water gardeners. Water lettuce is already a very unique and popular plant in the water garden and this variegated form is sure to liven up a garden even more. The variegation is creamy yellow against the deep green leaves making this a very attractive plant. We are sure this plant will be a standard floating plant for years to come. The variegation is more intensive in low nutrient situations.

Variegated snowflake - coming soon!
