Description:

Colocasia esculenta var. antiquorum is a colorful tropical marginal plant used in the water gardening trade. This taro plant has several common names such as Imperial Taro or Illustris. Imperial Taro is in the elephant's ear group of plants and displays large leaves that resemble an elephant's ear. These leaves are very decorative starting in the center with a dark purplish-black color fusing to green around the edges. Colocasia esculenta var. antiquorum is easy to grow and is commonly used at the edge of the water garden in shallow water or wet soil.
